Importance of Diet in Yogic Life

Upnishada says “Annamayam hi manah” meaning “Our mind is made from the essence of the food we eat”.

The success in Yoga depends on eating the right kind food or Mithara.

For the purification of body and mind, along with the Yoga practice, consumption of pure food or ‘Sattvic Aahar’ is necessary.

Sattvic diet consists of pure vegetarian food. It includes fresh fruit, vegetables, cereals, pulses, ghee, milk products, honey, nuts. In contrast, Tamasic diet consists of stale food, meat, fish, eggs, processed food, alcohol which increases dullness and lethargy and Rajasic diet is spicy food with onion, garlic, coffee, soft drinks, sugary foods which increases anger, hyperactivity.

Sattvic diet keep the body light and mind clear, inspire us for positive action, unleash our hidden potential and creativity and thus helping in Yoga practice.
